Rarest of the Rare – Port Ellen 1983 26yo Cask 674 54.6%
Tasting Notes by Mark:
Colour: Polished Mahogany
Nose: Sweet, dry smoke, smoked cheese, sandalwood. Black cherries, a little creamy – antiseptic cream and pepper.
Taste: Initial hit of ash, then big blood orange notes. Marzipan, dry smokiness. Cocoa, raisins, figs and a soft creaminess.
Finish: Long lingering dry smokiness, giving way to big rich red fruits, white pepper and wet ash.
Comment: Like eating fruit in a Sauna! An exceptional whisky!
Hello Mark :) This sounds really good. PE from sherry cask in a fruity shape… Could help us to get a bottle? I would like to present this exact bottling to our Polish customers and whisky-fans… As far as I know DT did not appoint the distributor in Poland yet (?), and the price form UK retailers is sky-high already ;) Thanks in advance and best wishes to all DT staff in Huntly, especially Jacque!
